AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE ILLINOIS AFL-CIO

In three weeks, union members and their families will decide whether “our votes” or “corporate money” wins this election. We can’t afford to sit this one out. It is critical that voting age members of your entire family take time to vote! There is simply no excuse not to vote.

  • Union members must know who we are supporting. Illinois AFL-CIO endorsements are found here:

  • Early Voting starts Monday, Oct. 22 and ends Saturday, Nov. 3. Every local should have a plan to make sure its members know where and when they can vote early. This link will allow members to find out where they can vote early:

  • Labor walks and phone banks are going on up and down the state. Please send as many volunteers as you can to our Labor to Labor locations. Contact Political Director Bill Looby at 217-492-2612 for a schedule.
  • Turnout is critical. All union households must go vote. Especially sporadic voting members. Call, text, e-mail and knock on members’ doors. The Illinois AFL-CIO can provide lists by congressional and legislative district. Also, take part in the “final four” days of member to member Get Out The Vote.
  • Vote “No” on the Proposed Constitutional Amendment. The question on the ballot will ask voters if the Constitution should be changed to require a three-fifths majority vote to increase a pension benefit in a public pension or retirement system. On October 3rd, delegates at the 40th Illinois AFL-CIO Constitutional Convention unanimously adopted a resolution opposing this proposed amendment.
