IMPORTANT: This information should not be downloaded using government equipment, read during duty time, or sent to others using government equipment, because it suggests action to be taken in support of and/or against legislation. Most Americans don’t understand how Sequestration will affect them. That’s why we’re recruiting your help to explain what Sequestration means, in simple English. If we want to stop Sequestration, we’re going to have to tell our story. So we’re setting up a Sequestration webpage with personal stories from AFGE members and federal workers. Our goal is to put a human face on the impact of sequestration–on how it impacts you, the American public, and the economy. In order to launch it, we need your stories.

You can submit your story to sequestrationstories@afge.org. Here is an example for you to get some ideas for your story. It doesn’t have to copy the format exactly, but make sure you have these things in your submission:

  • A picture of you in a casual setting, maybe with some friends and family
  • A description of yourself in a few words
  • An explanation of what sequestration would mean for Americans if you’re not on the job delivering the services you provide every day
  • What sequestration and the furloughs mean for you personally

All you have to do is send an email with your photo and story to sequestrationstories@afge.org. We’ll let you know when we’ve gathered enough stories to launch our webpage, and we’ll send you the link so you can see your story online!

By sending us something, you agree in advance that we can use your words and pictures on the webpage we are going to produce.

Please help us show America what sequestration really means, and how important federal workers are to this country. I look forward to receiving your thoughts, and thank you for all that you do.

In Solidarity,
J. David Cox Sr.
AFGE National President
