To all Local Presidents and Bargaining Council Presidents:

Thank you for joining me on the sequestration conference call yesterday. We had the largest number of Local leaders on a call in recent memory. I appreciate your energy, commitment, and willingness to take on the challenges that lie ahead, including our March 20th Day of Protest.

We talked about a number of things that I would like to follow up on:

  • First, here is the Sequestration Flyer that includes the toll free number and phone script for calling your Senators and Representative. When you print this out, you should print it double sided, with the flyer and toll free number on one side, and the phone script on the other. The flyer is approved by the GCO for worksite distribution within the restrictions noted.
  • Secondly, thank you for committing to put on an event on March 20th, AFGE’s National Day of Protest. Here is an event form for the March 20th activity you are planning. Please fill this out as soon as possible so we can provide you with the support you need to hold an event.
  • Third, we have set up a Sequestration Hotline for you to call if you have any questions. It is  (202)777-3079 . You can also email any questions you have to stopsequestration@afge.org.
  • Lastly, we are setting up a Sequestration webpage with personal stories from AFGE members and federal workers. Our goal is to put a human face on the impact of  sequestration–on you, on the American public, and the economy. In order to launch it, we need your stories. You can submit your story to SequestrationStories@afge.org Please submit a picture of yourself in a casual setting. Here is an example for you to get some ideas for your story. It doesn’t have to copy the format exactly, but make sure to describe yourself in a few words, then explain what sequestration will mean for Americans if you’re not on the job delivering the services you provide every day, and what it means for you personally.

Once again, thank you for your time and the fighting the good fight.

In Solidarity,

J. David Cox, Sr.
President, AFGE
