Stop the Furloughs, Pay Freezes, and Downgrades

As all of you know our members are facing some huge challenges. Whether it’s our brothers and sisters who are about to be furloughed, or our brothers and sisters who are facing downgrades, or all of our members who are facing the third year of pay freeze, there is not one AFGE member who is not facing a threat to their wages or benefits. We know that with the stroke of a pen Congress could end sequestration; we know with the stroke of a pen they could end the pay freeze, and we know with real leadership they could end these needless attacks on federal workers.

But the only way Congress is going to change their policies is if they feel pressure and the only way can build pressure is for every AFGE member to be involved. On the page, you will find three activities you can do to help end these harmful policies. Continue reading “Stop the Furloughs, Pay Freezes, and Downgrades”

Federal Workers’ Job Satisfaction in Freefall

Federal Workers’ Job Satisfaction in Freefall

By , About.com GuideDecember 18, 2012

Robert Longley

Back in February, all 1.8 million federal government employees were given a chance to rate their job satisfaction. The results were disturbing, as the overall job satisfaction and level of commitment of the federal workforce fell its lowest point since 2003.

In 2011, 64 out of every 100 federal employees said they were satisfied with their jobs. As we near the end of 2012, and the third year of the pay freeze imposed by President Obama in 2010, that number has fallen to 60.8 out of 100. The 5% drop is the largest in the history of the survey. At the same time, the Hay Group reported that employee satisfaction in the private sector remained steady, with a score of 70 out of 100. Stop Sequestration Now!

Stop Sequestration Now!

Let’s be honest – sequestration is just plain stupid. It would slash funding across the board for nearly every federal account, with no regard to how that will harm vital programs and services.

We’ve got to stop it.

That’s why we need you to call both of your senators and your representative right now. Yes, we’re asking you to make three calls. But it will only take a few minutes, and that’s what it’s going to take to win this fight.

Call each of your three lawmakers toll free at 1-888-775-3148. Follow the prompts to be connected directly to your lawmakers’ offices. Leave the following message with the receptionist:

Do not use a government phone, government computer, or duty time to contact congress.

“My name is _________ and I’m calling from _________ (give your city). Please tell the senator (or representative) to stop the sequester right now. And ask the senator (or representative) to do so by asking the very rich, big corporations and Wall Street to pay their fair share. No more cuts for the working Americans who have already sacrificed enough. Thank you for taking my call.”

Again, don’t forget to call both of your senators and your representative.

Thanks for making your calls and for helping to stop the sequester madness.

Do not use a government phone, government computer, or duty time to contact congress.
